INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ISLAMISMS IN EUROPE - PARIS 2024
Islamism in a minority context has been the subject of a limited number of studies compared with the number of surveys and analyses devoted to Islamism in Muslim-majority countries. However, the 2000s saw a growing awareness of the enduring presence of fundamentalist currents of so-called political/cultural/legal Islam in secularised societies.
How do so-called legalistic Islamisms (and is that the right terminology) interact with secularised societies? How do they differ from Islamism in non-secularised areas where Islam directly inspires legislation? How do they operate in European countries where they have trained three generations of Muslims? Have they or have they not become hegemonic in the Islamic landscape? What role have the 'woke' ideologies played in their development? Does neoliberalism favour their influence? What are their links with anti-Semitic ideologies? We will explore these issues thanks to the expertise of renowned scientists from countries such as Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States and Sweden.
The aims of this scientific symposium are to - take stock of and question knowledge about the various legalistic Islamist tendencies active in Europe, their projects, methods, strategies and resources. - assess their influence on populations, models of society and their capacity to threaten secular democratic regimes - take stock of prevention and responses in different European countries.
PLEASE NOTE: the lectures will be given in French or English, with simultaneous translation. Bring your own headphones (they must be connected by minijack!) or hire one on site.

Who's organizing the symposium?
This international scientific conference is organised by Dr Florence Bergeaud-Blackler (CNRS, Centre Européen de Recherche et d'Information sur le Frérisme), co-financed by the Ile-de-France Region and the Paris office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The project is supported by the association Défense des Serviteurs de la République (DSR), which is responsible for hosting the event, logistics and technical preparations in conjunction with the Region Ile de France.
